Papers, 1842-1847.

Collection consists of Douglas's Pastoral Visitation Book, dating from his ministry at Purity Church in S.C. The volume records brief entries on Douglas's visits to members, and often included personal information about those he visited. The entries include variously: names of persons visited and other members of the household, occasionally noting servants; religious affiliation and local church membership (seceders often noted); deaths; migrations; activities at the household; and information about elders, such as Abraham White, James McClintock, Hugh White, and Hugh and Samuel McKown. Churches mentioned include Concord, Catholic, Mt. Olivet, and Jackson's Creek, all in Chester or Fairfield Counties.
